Each year Judit Polgar's infectious enthusiasm and passion inspire more and more cities to join the #ChessConnectsUs initiative and organise events on the day of the Global Chess Festival. This fall Judit's festival is on October 13th, with 18 countries from all over the world joining the international chess celebration. They are: Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Botswana, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Czech Republic, India, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, USA and Venezuela. As well as various locations within Hungary itself (Judit's Global Chess Festival is based in Budapest).
The Dutch Chess Federation has come up with a fascinating idea, creating the first ever chess island in the world. As the Mayor of the Schiermonnikoog Island said, "[The chess island] is a place where chess is being played and learnt in an enthusiastic and accessible way, with the involvement of the young and old."
Another special organiser this year is China, who received the Global Chess Festival Partner status for promoting the #ChessConnectsUs initiative in multiple ways: They have implemented Judit Polgar's educational program in schools all across the country, and host the highest number of events on October 13th: at 200 locations in total!
