RubikChess – Where Logic Meets Play!
As part of this year’s Judit Polgar's Global Chess Festival, we are thrilled to launch the RubikChess competition for the very first time — a unique and dynamic challenge for elementary school pupils of mixed teams that fuses blitz chess with the excitement of solving a Rubik’s Cube.

📍 Venue: Hungarian National Gallery – Dome Hall, 3rd floor
📅 Date: September 30, 2025
🎤 Opening Ceremony: from 13:45 – with the planned presence of Judit Polgár and Ernő Rubik! A rare and special opportunity for participants to meet two of Hungary’s most iconic minds in person!

What is RubikChess?
RubikChess is a 5-round team tournament of two students — in the spirit of gender equality 1 girl and 1 boy, where one player takes on the role of chess player, and the other becomes the cube solver. During the blitz chess game, three randomly timed cube-solving breaks interrupt the match. During these breaks, both cube solvers race to solve a scrambled 3x3 Rubik’s Cube — and the faster solver gives a crucial time advantage to their teammate.

We invited elementary school teams to participate — and the 50 available team spots filled up in no time due to overwhelming interest!  If you missed your chance this year, don’t worry: take a peek at the tournament or watch the stage presentation with Judit Polgár and her guests from 11:00 AM

In celebration of gender equality and the timeless beauty of chess, the venue proudly presents two paintings by renowned Spanish artist Nistal Mayorga. Each portrait pays homage to one iconic figure—one woman, one man—who represent the highest ideals of the game: excellence, determination, and the universal spirit of competition. Displayed side by side, these works not only honor their individual legacies but also illuminate a powerful truth: that talent knows no gender. Can you guess who these legends might be?

The RubikChess tournament is proudly supported by the FIDE Women’s Commission.

The programme is subject to change.
