GUIDED TOURS
September 30, Tuesday
Hungarian National Gallery, 2.5th floor
1:00 PM & 2:00 PM
While immersing yourself in the world of chess, don’t forget to lift your gaze to the surrounding art! The museum educators of the Hungarian National Gallery warmly invite visitors of the Global Chess Festival to join special guided tours on a variety of themes:
1:00 PM — Heavenly Kingdom
In the Throne Hall, visitors can admire one of medieval Hungary’s largest winged altarpieces: the High Altar of Saint John the Baptist from Kisszeben. Through identifying the saints and martyrs by their attributes and answering guiding questions, participants will gain insight into the hierarchical order of the heavenly kingdom.
2:00 PM — The Greatest Players in Art
Great moves leave their mark on canvas as well. These are the most valuable and most vibrant masterpieces. This tour follows the artistic footsteps of Hungary’s most renowned painters, introducing the works of Mihály Munkácsy, Pál Szinyei Merse, József Rippl-Rónai, and Judit Reigl.
The programme is subject to change.
